- In what Tennessee Williams describes as the best film adaptation of his work he ever saw, Sissy Goforth, the world's richest woman, has retired to her lavish island estate to dictate her autobiography when poet Chris Flanders washes up on her beach. Flanders has the unfortunate reputation of calling on a woman one-step before the undertaker and is known as the angel of death. Undaunted by this, Goforth undertakes to make Flanders her last lover
