- Summary
- In war-torn England, black American troops have arrived to battle the Germans in Europe. They still experience prejudice from many of their white compatriots, but are welcomed by the British. One young black soldier, Travis, meets Maggie, an English woman whose husband, Edward, is fighting overseas. Maggie is lonely and confused about her husband's infidelities and soon finds comfort in the arms of Travis. But when Edward discovers them in the heat of passion, his rage is uncontrollable. In a time of war, punishment can be swift and vengeance terrible. Travis soon finds himself on trial for his life--and the only way Maggie can save him is by betraying her husband, their family and the world they built together
